"Disorientation"

I believe that no one should regret anything because everything happens for a reason. Those experiences and things you have gone through make up who you are today. This sculpture represents what would happen if you could take everything you "regret" back. You would feel like something is off or missing. You can't quite put a finger on it. I designed the box and objects to visually convey a feeling of emptiness and confusion. I chose a familiar material, wood, and manipulated it into shapes that you don't normally see. I used blue paint on the pegs and objects for contrast, but also to create a somewhat mechanical and artificial look. I also chose not to make all of the pieces of wood fit into each other exactly, to make the piece feel even more unfamiliar.

I started by just making the box, not knowing what would be in it yet.

I did this because I wanted the objects to be juxtaposed with the box.

The overall feeling of the work is supposed to be incomplete, so my idea wasn't complete until the end.

The three sculptures visually communicate confusion.

While exploring the materials to build the sculptures, I wanted to focus on the way the inks melted together because I thought it made the work pop.

I decided to include the submarine like windows.

I felt the work was lacking contrast, so I used black ink on the canvas.

I want to keep exploring how many different ways paper can be used.

I want to learn more about using paper pulp.

This piece allowed me to explore patience.

The making of this work exposed new ideas such as strategies for weaving paper.
